Authority Athletics recently discussed how the Arizona Coyotes should take a slow and steady approach to their rebuild despite having a promising season. The untouchables have been identified as Logan Cooley, Matias Maccelli, Michael Kesselring, J.J. Moser, and Clayton Keller. Which brings us to Nick Schmaltz. Should the Coyotes keep the veteran playmaker or trade him for future assets.
Schmaltz has been a staple in the Coyotes top 6 forward group for several years now. He is coming off consecutive high 50-point totals (59 points in 2021-22 and 58 points in 2022-23). Schmaltz also offers a high degree of flexibility as he can play on the wing or down the middle. If Schmaltz is made available, he would garner a lot of attention.
Keep or Trade? The Arizona Coyotes should keep Nick Schmaltz as they continue their rebuild. Here’s why; Schmaltz pairs perfectly with Clayton Keller. The two players really mesh well together and that is likely not going to change anytime soon. Schmaltz is also only 27 years old. He should still be a very serviceable top 6 forward as the Coyotes really start to contend in the next 2-3 years. Lastly, the team will still need some veteran leadership on the team. Schmaltz currently serves as an assistant captain and can provide stability amongst the leadership group of the team.
WOULD YOU TRADE NICK SCHMALTZ IF YOU WERE THE ARIZONA COYOTES?
