The Maple Leafs Need More from Mitch Marner

The Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves down 3-1 in their series with the Boston Bruins. This comes as no surprise to me; If you recall I predicted the Leafs would be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

One major reason why the Leafs are facing elimination, Mitch Marner! Marner simply hasn’t been good enough for the Leafs. Marner has 1 goal and 1 assist in 4 games this postseason. That is not going to get it done. Marner makes over $10 million per year. That salary should represent a player that is expected to be the best player on the ice. Marner is no where close to that.

Stats aside, Marner has demonstrated zero passion so far in the playoffs. He is losing board battle after board battle. There is even a clip where Marner goes out of his way to avoid a hit in the corner. There is simply no aggressiveness, no passion, no willingness to compete.

Marner is helping the Leafs find a way out of the playoffs, but he may also be playing his way out of Toronto. Fans are tired of losing and tired of lackluster effort from their “superstars”.
